SUSTAINABILITY POLICY

My commitment

I recognise my responsibility to minimise the environmental impact of my photography and film production while creating thoughtful, high-quality work for my clients.

As an independent photographer and director, I aim to make practical and achievable choices throughout each project — from planning and travel through to production, equipment, catering and post-production. I continually review my working practices and look for ways to reduce waste, energy use and unnecessary travel.

Sustainable production

Where appropriate, I will:

  • Reduce unnecessary travel by considering remote direction, local crew and self-shooting solutions where these are practical and appropriate to the project.

  • Choose sustainable transport wherever possible, prioritising public transport, shared travel and efficient journeys. Where air travel is proposed, I will consider whether it is necessary or whether a local crew or remote solution could achieve the same result.

  • Use existing resources wherever possible, including equipment, props, locations and materials, rather than purchasing new items unnecessarily.

  • Reuse and recycle production materials, packaging and equipment wherever practical, and donate useful surplus materials to relevant organisations where possible.

  • Reduce paper use by working digitally and printing only when necessary. Where printing is required, I aim to use recycled paper and double-sided printing.

  • Reduce energy consumption by using energy-efficient equipment, including LED lighting where appropriate, and avoiding unnecessary use of lighting and other electrical equipment.

  • Consider catering choices that reduce environmental impact, including vegetarian and plant-based options and minimising food waste.

  • Work with local suppliers and crew where appropriate, helping to reduce travel while supporting local creative communities.

  • Use digital workflows for production planning, communication, delivery and approvals wherever possible.

Equipment and purchasing

I aim to buy less, make my existing equipment last longer and reuse or recycle items responsibly.

Where new equipment or materials are required, I consider durable, repairable and second-hand options where appropriate. I avoid unnecessary single-use materials and seek to ensure that equipment, props and other production materials have a useful life beyond an individual shoot.

Working with clients and collaborators

I take a collaborative approach to sustainability and will work with clients, crew, suppliers and contributors to identify practical ways of reducing the environmental impact of individual productions.

For each project, I consider the most appropriate and sustainable method of producing the required content, balancing environmental considerations with the creative, logistical and practical requirements of the brief.

I also recognise the importance of working respectfully with the people and communities involved in my productions. Where possible, I aim to work with local contributors and suppliers and to ensure that my work is considerate of the locations and communities in which I operate.

Continuous improvement

I see sustainability as an ongoing process rather than a one-off objective. I regularly review my working practices, keep up to date with developments in sustainable production and look for opportunities to improve.

I welcome suggestions from clients, collaborators and suppliers that can help me reduce my environmental impact and support their own sustainability objectives.

My aim is to create considered, high-quality creative work while using fewer resources, creating less waste and reducing unnecessary environmental impact wherever I can.
